On December 30, 2022 Moscow Idaho police announced the arrest of 28-year-old Bryan Kohberger in relation to the homicides of Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle & Madison Mogen (known as the ‘Idaho 4’ or ‘Moscow Murders’). A press conference was held to share developements with the public.

[ BEGIN IDAHO MURDERS ARREST PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT – BRYAN KOHBERGER ARREST 2022 UPDATE ]

CHIEF JAMES FRY:  Thank you for coming today.

Last night, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, detectives arrested 28 year old Bryan Christopher Kohberger in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania on a warrant for murders of Ethan, Xana, Madison and Kaylee.

I want to personally thank these agencies for their assistance in this case.

Kohberger resides in Pullman, Washington, and is a graduate student at Washington State University. We will provide as much information as we can about the extradition to Idaho and the criminal process. However, due to Idaho State law, we are limited in what information we can release today until Kohberger has had his initial appearance in Idaho court.

I want to express my appreciation to our local community, the people of Idaho and those throughout our nation who provided information to help us investigate these murders has been very impressive. We’ve received over 19,000 tips and we’ve conducted over 300 interviews.

FBI confirm body found in Grand Teton National Park area of Wyoming is that of missing Gabby Petito.

SPOKESPERSON: Good afternoon, everyone. Thank you for joining us. We’ll have time for a brief statement, and because this is an ongoing investigation we won’t have time for questions. Please.

CHARLES JONES: Good afternoon. My name is Charles Jones. I’m the Supervisory Senior Resident Agent here in Wyoming for FBI Denver. Standing with me here today are Acting Chief Ranger Matt Wilber with the National Park Service, Hunter Bailey who is Chief of the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch. We also have Teton County Sheriff Matt Carr and Jackson Police Chief Michelle Weber. First and foremost, on the behalf of the FBI personnel and our partners, I would like to extend sincere and heartfelt condolences to Gabby’s family: Joe and Tara Petito and Jim and Nichole Schmidt. As every parent can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for the family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. We ask that you all respect their privacy as they mourn the loss of their daughter. As you are aware, FBI personnel in coordination with our partners at the National Park Service, the Forest Service, Teton County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson Police Department have been conducting investigative activity in the vicinity of the Spread Creek dispersed camping area. Earlier today, human remains were discovered consistent with the description of Gabrielle ‘Gabby’ Petito. Full forensic identification has not been completed to confirm 100% that we found Gabby, but her family has been notified of this discovery. The cause of death has not been determined at this time.
