BROOKS HOUCK INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT ⎮Crystal Rogers Case

Brooks Houck Interview Transcript Police - Crystal Rogers Case Bardstown Murders

Part 1 of the Brooks Houck interview transcript from his July 2015 police interrogation surrounding the disappearance of Crystal Rogers.

On July 8, 2015 Brooks Houck (longtime boyfriend of Crystal Rogers) was interviewed by Detective Jon Snow of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office regarding her disappearance.

The interrogation, which lasts almost two hours, hovers into absurdity with Brooks’ explanation for his lack of concern over Crystal’s whereabouts (insinuating he thought she may be at a party buying sex toys) and is interrupted by a theatrical phone call from his brother, police officer Nick Houck.

The interview is heavy with crosstalk, interrupting, abrupt speaker shifts and regional dialect. Reading the transcript while also listening to the audio is recommended, if possible. We have included a video of the interview, courtesy of Nelson County Gazette.

Below is Part One of the Brooks Houck interview transcript, from 0:00 to 1:00:01 / Page 1-29.

[Detective Jon Snow of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office enters the interrogation room. A door closes behind him as he takes a seat behind a wooden desk. Brooks Houck is already seated at the opposite end]

DETECTIVE JON SNOW: I just called and tried to get ahold of him before I came in here. He’s not answering his phone yet, so he must still be in the middle of it.

BROOKS HOUCK: Alright. That’s alright.

DETECTIVE JON SNOW: Alright, I’m gonna take a minute here and read through your statement if that’s alright…

BROOKS HOUCK: Yeah.

DETECTIVE JON SNOW: Get an idea. You might have answered some of my questions already, so–

BROOKS HOUCK: –but, you know, I was trying to cover as much as I could. If my writing’s not real legible you can just ask me and I can clarify it …

Crystal Rogers FBI Search Updates / August 2021

NOTE: This is an ongoing story that will be updated. Last Update Friday August 27, 2021

Massive news in the case of Crystal Rogers, a 35 year old missing mom-of-five from Kentucky. After taking over the case almost exactly a year ago, the FBI made a sudden return to Crystal’s hometown of Bardstown, Kentucky… and they brought search warrants with them!

On July 5, 2015, Rogers’ 2007 Chevrolet sedan was found abandoned on the side of the Bluegrass Parkway with a flat tire. The keys were still in the ignition, and her purse and cellphone were located inside the vehicle. Two and a half months later, Crystal’s boyfriend, Brooks Houck, was named by then-Sheriff Ed Mattingly as the prime suspect in her disappearance. While police have confirmed they believe she is dead, her remains have never been located.

Upon arrival in Bardstown on Tuesday August 25th, FBI teams began searching three properties in Woodlawn Springs, a 250-acre subdivision in the rural town. A cadaver dog and ground penetrating radar were brought on scene. Sherri Ballard, mother of Rogers, said her family searched the area years prior during an independent investigation into her daughter’s whereabouts. Houck was involved in a construction project in the neighborhood that lined up with the timeframe Crystal went missing.

By the morning of Wednesday August 25, the FBI appeared to narrow their range of focus onto one home on N. Howard Street; more specifically, a section of driveway and bordering gravel drainage ditch. Tents were set up on top of the driveway, shielding agents as they dug up the area with shovels and ran dirt through handheld sifters.
